John Hardy is excited to unveil the Fall 2014 campaign featuring supermodel Cara Delevingne!

Supermodel Cara Delevingne has been described as “one of those girls who combines energy, wit, enthusiasm and a kind of edgy beauty.”  Also described as “effortlessly cool,” her unique beauty and playful irreverence make Cara truly One Of A Kind, just like our handcrafted jewelry. Cara got her start modeling for Cadbury as a child, and since then, has walked the top runways at New York, London, Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks. She has also graced the covers of the world’s most premier fashion magazines, including this month’s W Magazine, Vogue, Interview Magazine, along with countless others.

Modeling is just one side of Cara’s multifaceted career. In addition to a passion for music, Cara kicked off her acting career alongside actress Keira Knightley in the major motion film Anna Karenina in 2012. She also just premiered The Face of an Angel at Toronto International Film Festival in September 2014, and has three additional films in the works, including London Fields and Pan and Paper Towns.

Cara’s energy and love of life come alive in the John Hardy Fall 2014 campaign; her free spirit and independence are reflective of John Hardy at its core. Cara is completely unique, like each piece of John Hardy jewelry.

Bali Celebrations

John Hardy is deeply rooted in the culture and history of Bali, and the country is a constant source of inspiration. May and June are especially rich with celebrations including Galungan Day, Pengerebongan and Perang Pandan.

Galungan Day is the most important holiday symbolizing the victory of Good over Evil (Dharma and Adharma). During this special time, the streets are lined with 'penjors', tall bamboo poles splendidly decorated with woven young coconut leaves and flowers, which symbolize peace. People dress in their finest clothes and jewels this day to celebrate.

Pengerebongan is a sacred ritual held in Kesiman Village. This event is very unique as people can suddenly be taken over by a mystical and magical trance. The priest will  give a holy water to bring back to the real world after a trance.

Perang Pandan, also called Mekare-Kare, is a ceremony to honor the god Indra (god of war) and ancestors. This ritual is held annually in the village of Tenganan, East Bali. The men are bare-chested and fight with thorny branches in a battle of the gods.

Poleng is the black and white cloth often seen wrapped around temples or sacred statues and trees in Bali. It symbolizes good and evil, the Yin and Yang of Bali. The Balinese believe that good does not exists without evil and vice versa. To appreciate one, you need to know the other.

The Mythical Dragon of Bali

We return to our home in Bali, where there is a myth of a dragon with a fierce and protective love for the pearl. The dragon leaves his home in the Balinese volcanos each evening and visits his pearl at the bottom of the sea. When he returns to his lair, his scales shed water into the fields, bringing the island love, prosperity and protection. This dragon, the Naga, is sacred to the Balinese and a symbol of our connection to the natural world. The legend is very much a part of Bali, so the Naga is naturally very much a part of us. This season we returned to the legend's power, giving the collection a new energy and movement; his scales glimmering with black sapphire and eyes burning with richly colored rubies. Discover our home in Bali and explore the power of the Naga collection.

Rhythm in Borneo

In the villages of Borneo, craftsmen have been creating beads of astounding complexity for centuries. These beads are so beautiful that they were once used as currency and of tremendous value, even today. In these villages, we saw the spectacular beaded patterns in the striking contrast of black and white. We emulated that pattern, first creating our own handmade silver beads then polishing them to high shines or oxidizing them completely to black and then blending the two together, with chains and diamonds and a variety of precious gems creating these fluid, primal designs with an innate elegance. We are Greener Every Day

When Mr. Hardy first arrived in Bali, he worked and lived in an entirely natural environment and his spirit of environmental respect has remained at our heart. Today, the same concept is at the start of everything we do, from the way we live on our compound – natural bamboo buildings and a wood oven for our locally grown lunches, to the way we work – we use only reclaimed silver and plant bamboo seedlings throughout Bali to offset our carbon emissions. To date we have planted 900,000 bamboos through our Wear Bamboo, Plant Bamboo program, which plants a number of seedlings for each Bamboo collection piece. This year, we’re also contributing 20% of our Bamboo collection's sales to Trees New York.  Celebrate the beauty of our natural world this Earth Day and join us in our efforts to be Greener Every Day.

The Sea of Celebes

Celebes is actually called Sulawasi nowadays – but we can’t help but love the charming beauty of the old name because it so beautifully reflects the island. Charming, ancient, and far, far away. We had long stretches of some of the most pristine beaches in the world all to ourselves in Celebes. There, huge shells would wash up on the sand. So many of them were so similar, so perfect but still distinct in the most subtle way – their texture. Each had been weathered and worn, dappled and polished and this reminded us of the Palu collection – each cuff or cufflink is designed to look the same but they come out complete different because of the organic nature of the hammering. For this season, Palu takes on Celebes’ beautiful beaches and glimmering seashells. Journey to Celebes and explore the latest arrivals for Palu.

Bamboo in Java

Java is a bustling island, home to huge cities and industry but when we landed on a quieter part of the island there was an airiness, a lightness that we couldn’t put into words. Then there was this moment when the rays of the setting sun bounced off of the bamboo rods some local fisherman were using and that was it! The graceful arcs of bamboo, the light dancing on the polished poles, and the colors of the sunset filling the air around you; that was Java and this moment inspired a new sensuous, delicate range of rings, earrings and refined cuffs. Experience Java and explore the latest arrivals for Bamboo.

Fiery Sumatra

With raging volcanos and deep dark jungles, Sumatra is at once, foreboding and alluring. It drew us in with its power and mystery. Sumatra is full of rough edges that have no desire to be polished or smoothed. The whole island shimmers with a sort of raw energy. You can’t capture Sumatra, you can’t explain Sumatra but with Kubik we can reflect its power and energy, the darkness of the jungles, the danger of the volcanos. When we visited Sumatra on this journey, we were inspired by its raw strength and we really imbued Kubik with that spirit. Explore Sumatra and discover the latest arrivals for Men.
